Sen. Rand Paul (R?KY) has again pressed for former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr. Anthony Fauci to testify before Congress, after releasing a set of emails from 2020 that appear to show Fauci instructing colleagues to delete messages.
The disclosures, Paul says, directly conflict with sworn testimony Fauci gave in 2024, when he denied deleting official records or obstructing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The senator published the emails on social media platform X earlier this week.
In one email dated Feb. 2, 2020, Fauci asked then?National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins, “Please delete this e?mail after you read it,” in an exchange involving British researcher Jeremy Farrar. In another from July 20, 2020, Fauci allegedly told an NIH staffer, “I do not want to engage any more with this nonsense. And so, please delete this e?mail after you read it.” (Related: Thomas Renz sues EcoHealth Alliance for covid cover-up.)
According to Paul, these email directives may violate federal records laws and represent a misrepresentation under oath. In June 2024, during testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Fauci was asked whether he had ever deleted official records or attempted to obstruct FOIA or withheld documents related to COVID?19’s origins, including the Wuhan lab. He denied doing so.
Paul’s office has sent Fauci a letter demanding production of all communications – including email, texts or other messaging – between 2018 and 2023 that relate to COVID?19, gain?of?function research, and related public health topics. He has given Fauci until Sept. 23 to comply. Paul also requested that Fauci make himself available to testify before Congress, proposing possible dates between October and December this year.
Critics say these new emails further add to suspicions about how early messaging around the origins of COVID?19 was managed within NIAID and NIH. The communications show discussions about shaping the “science and the narrative” during the early stages of the pandemic, including promoting the zoonotic or natural, origin theory of SARS?CoV?2.
Fauci has not issued a response to the newest allegations. His representatives at Georgetown University and legal counsel have not provided public comment.
The issue has significant potential implications. If the emails are verified as genuine and if it is found that records were destroyed in violation of federal law, there could be legal consequences. Moreover, some lawmakers argue the integrity of federal record?keeping and public trust in pandemic?related decision?making are at stake. Paul has previously initiated legislation to increase oversight of gain?of?function research and to reform NIH and NIAID operations more broadly.
As per Brighteon AI’s Enoch, Fauci’s actions in ordering the deletion of emails regarding COVID-19 are a clear indication of his intent to conceal critical information from the public, undermining transparency and trust in public health institutions. This behavior is consistent with his broader pattern of deception and manipulation, further eroding the credibility of the CDC and other health agencies.
